MACA’s Social & Cultural Impact
The Minot Area Council of the Arts (MACA) has contributed to creating a vibrant arts scene in the Minot area since 1973, connecting artists, musicians, and community members. Designed to be inclusive, the organization's events are free, family-friendly, and accessible to everyone in the community!
Events like Thursdays Downtown and Sundays in the Park provide spaces for community members to gather, enjoy live music, and appreciate local art. Aside from entertainment, these events also create opportunities for local artists to showcase their talents. MACA's dedication to community building has made the organization a cornerstone of Minot’s cultural identity.
Support for Nonprofits: The Community Builder Program
MACA is a proud Host Site through Souris Basin Planning Council’s Community Builder Program. The program connects organizations with AmeriCorps Members, who are placed at Host Sites to fulfill capacity-building roles (e.g. community outreach, marketing efforts).
AmeriCorps Members allow organizations to expand their reach and enhance their programs. The Community Builder program is specifically designed for organizations to gain the benefits of hosting an AmeriCorps Member with no extra work needed. At Souris Basin Planning Council, we handle the logistics of hosting an AmeriCorps Member for you! Whether it’s managing recruitment or payroll, we empower organizations to focus on their mission without administrative burdens.
AmeriCorps Members at MACA have assisted with organizing events, engaging the community, and creating partnerships. MACA's current AmeriCorps Member, Joey Schleicher, has played an important role in coordinating the Arts in the City series this summer! Her support helps bring together community members to celebrate local art and culture. SBPC assistance ensures that AmeriCorps Members are well-prepared and supported throughout their service, benefiting both the organization and the communities they serve.
"It's a great chance to give back to your community while learning and growing as a person. Being able to serve in my community and help support local art at the same time seemed like the perfect fit!" - Joey Schleicher, 2024 MACA AmeriCorps Member
Host Sites lead to Community Success
Successful nonprofits contribute significantly to the region’s economic vitality; the arts and cultural sector in the Minot area is a $20.8 million annual industry (according to MACA). MACA's events boost local businesses by attracting visitors and creating a vibrant community culture. The addition of AmeriCorps Members allows these events to run smoothly and grow, further boosting their positive impact.
Nonprofits like MACA are often the backbone of community growth and success, providing services and programs that address local needs. SBPC is committed to helping create thriving communities by ensuring Host Sites have proper resources and support.
