In 2022, Souris Basin Planning Council (SBPC) worked with the New Town Chamber to develop a strategic plan to determine priorities, decide where to focus resources, and work towards common goals. The Chamber established a Steering Committee to lead the planning process and to provide recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Throughout the process, the Steering Committee and SBPC held meetings to understand key issues and worked to develop goals and strategies. A SWOT Analysis and community survey was conducted to gain information from members and non-members. The SWOT Analysis and survey provided a comprehensive discovery process, with great feedback, allowing SBPC to develop four "buckets" of focus for the Chamber, with achievable action items.

There were many observations and general recommendations that SBPC was able to gain during the strategic planning process. Based on information collected, SBPC determined the Chamber has four main focus areas-- membership, operations, business support, and tourism and events. Each area of focus is designed to naturally intersect with the remaining focus areas.

The New Town Chamber Board of Directors adopted the plan in January 2023. Through SBPC's Community Builder Program, the New Town Chamber will receive an AmeriCorps member to assist with the implementation activities.
