Minot Air Force Base JLUS

In February 2014, SBPC was awarded funding assistance from the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA), to conduct a Joint Land Use Study.

The JLUS highlighted a number of operational and land use conflicts between Minot Air Force Base and other jurisdictions within its influence. The final document identified strategies to address conflicts that could impact the mission of the US Air Force.

Local matching funds were provided by the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce. A consulting team was selected to conduct the study and it was completed in 2015. In June 2017, SBPC was awarded additional funding for JLUS Implementation. With these grant funds, SBPC worked with a consulting firm to create a Do-It-Yourself Comprehensive Plan Guide for cities, townships and counties and held four comprehensive plan training seminars. This document and training is the first of its kind in the state of North Dakota. Additionally, land use informational documents were created for cities and counties to utilize. An e-blast template is available upon request from SBPC.
