Tolley Receives Grant Dollars to Build Fire Hall

Tolley, North Dakota needed a building to put thier emergency vehicles. The facilities they were using did not adequately house all the fire fighting units and in order to keep the equipment in top shape, it needed to be stored in an acceptable central location. The fire district covered over 245 square miles, including a large portion of the Upper Souirs National Wildlife Refuge, which is undeveloped and very difficult to access. Without some sort of assistance, the 152 people in the fire district would not have had the resources to build the facility.

That's where the Souris Basin Planning Council and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program helped.

The Renville County Highway Department also needed shop and storage space in that area of the Councty, so it was a natural to combine the two projects. By pulling together city, county, state funds along with the CDBG grant, the volunteer Tolley Fire District was able to match the grant requirements and build a fire hall that will aid the entire region.
